Jeezus Rob, your killing my settings;

Timing cached reads:   906 MB in  2.00 seconds = 452.82 MB/sec
 Timing buffered disk reads:  38MB in  3.15 seconds =  12.08 MB/sec

Settings so far, hdparm -X34 -d1 -m16 -c3 /dev/hda
If it makes any difference here's my lappy spec;

Fujitsu Siemens amilo a7640w
Amd Sempron 3000+
512 ram

Jbz

what would be considered good settings?
here are mine...

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ sudo hdparm -tT /dev/sda1

/dev/sda1:
 Timing cached reads:   1452 MB in  2.00 seconds = 490.64 MB/sec
 Timing buffered disk reads:  38MB in  3.15 seconds =  12.04 MB/sec

how does this compare?

rob
