AFAIK the repo will not work. Depending on what-you-want there may be little or great effort to have things running on Ubuntu, but you should be able to compile nearly all the software over time. However you'll gona have pain in the ass doing it twice a year, so I suggest sticking to some LTS version.

Why not Debian testing? Im sure you'll be able to install Debian on eee:

I'm sure Debian is worth trying.

Why not eeebuntu or some other netbook remix (if you have to be ubuntu-ized - Ubuntu is really debianish, it just will break your toys with every bigger upgrade or new release)?
