Why not eeebuntu or some other netbook remix (if you have to be ubuntu-ized - Ubuntu is really debianish, it just will break your toys with every bigger upgrade or new release)?

that's what i had. gnome was just too much for the eee and my plan was to do the upgrade and then change the desktop to XFCE. but now everything is gone because the updater crashed.
