It is but marginally (I have no problems with this combination here for
example) however the chances of your QL locking up are extremely higher.

Yes it is relatively easy to replace your QL power supply with a PC one,
or even modify the circuitry inside your QL.
You should contact Tony Firshman on that one :-)
The QL power supply can cope with both Gold Card and Qubide.
However this arrangement is electrically unsatisfactory with the QL
motherboard, as there is a lot of electrical noise.
Using a PC power supply, which is certainly possible with this
arrangement, will not help reduce noise. The motherboard will need
slight modification. I do not recommend connecting just to the 9V line
on the expansion connector and looping across the QL regulator, as this
is then a very long path for the 5V supply.
You will naturally want to run hard disk drives as well.
This means a lot of random bits on the desk.
The only satisfactory way do this is find a deep AT case, and fit
everything inside using a good back plane to mount GC and Qubide (eg
Mplane). Mplane will also allow you to mount both GC and the
motherboard on the base of the case.
The only disadvantage of doing this is you will need a keyboard
interface (superHermes or Diren) for an AT keyboard.
You can use an ATX case, but this means the power sense line (green) has
to be connected to ground.
