Assuming I can still find it - I have got one somewhere, but WHERE :-(

Will try that, of course. I have used Arnold's technique of gently 
tapping the usual suspect parts of the various boards.

I have looked, but can't see any. Sometime over christmas, when I get 
a proper day off, I'll take it all apart for a more detailed look. It 
used to work fine, something went wrong at about the time I changed 
monitors, if only I could find that SOMETHING. I still think that 
although the timing was probably coincidence, I must perhaps have 
disturbed something while changing the monitor jumper connectors on 
the Aurora.
