Well, as an ex-mathematician I also was not surprised. I'm sure various
languages I've used have behaved the same way i.e. INT rounds down to the
the nearest integer if the value is not already an integer.

Plot a graph of x against INT(x) for x=-2 to 2 and it all looks quite
