I've never fallen for the whole desktop metaphor, be it the Xerox interface, Mac interface, or Windows interface. I've used desktops on Xerox, Macs, Unix (Sun, SGI, Linux), and Windows and found that I could get by without the desktop. Mind you a GUI is perfect for opening other shells. But the desktop bit with files on the desktop, and such, not for me. I think using Qascade and using buttons is a better metaphor. Tim Swenson
