Huh, the problem is that I still do not own Garmin (it will arrive ~7
days) and MapSource installer does not work without previous version
(they provide only updates - bloody proprietary apps)

I was able to create my own *.img map via mkgmap and it works.

The remaining question is whether it is possible to use mkgmap to create
*.tdb file from the bunch of *.img files (which people provide at sites
like http://www.osm4you.com/) to be loadable by Qlandkarte?

This trick of 'killing the elephant' I had to find pretty quickly - I
use(d) the method of just wiping ~/.config/QLandkartGT folder ;)
