Hi Gour,

that all has nothing to do with engineering.

Copy protection is a legal issue. Not a technical one.

There is no sense in rendering *osm files as they are not supported by any
devices at all. If you want to render OSM use their tools. There is more than
one. If you want to deal with Garmin, *img is the format.

To split a gmapsupp.img is hacking. To split gmapsupp.img supplied by OSM is
not really needed.

The wine developers have spent 15 years of their spare time to help out if
everything failes. I spent more than 2 years of my spare time to help Garmin
users on Linux. The developers of GDAL and Proj4 have spent around 9 years to
build free public libraries for geospatial operations.

If you don't like the situation, try to match these times to improve things.
Opensource is not free beer. Even if many think of it like that. It's the
freedom to do things like you want them to be done. It's a community that
helps each other. You pay in work load for that. There is no such thing like
a free lunch.

Thus if you want a generic Linux gmapsupp splitter, get the Garmin IMG spec
from sf.net, look at my code in CGarminExport and write that thing. If you
want to load such a blob like gmapsupp.img in QLandkarte GT look at the code
in CMapTDB and create your CMapImg class from it.

It will. It's used to create all these OSM map collection you find in the net.
If Croatia is still missing, take the bait and maintain a periodic build from
the data base. That will do a difference for sure.

Oliver
