i'm just not into the 'everything will be ok honey - they are doing wonderful things with stem cells now days' story.  i also think the future holds more disappointments than thrills - i am very glad i don't have a crystal ball.

Is the the advice you would offer at the rehab center?  I guess that could be why they turned you down.

that someone ends up in a w/c and has to see his best friend head out with his ex g/f?  that's pretty much real life if you ask me

ya know... i contacted a rehab center near me after my 35 years with an sci and offered to talk to any new injuries.... they were luke warm at best - kinda blew me off.  i may offer again - i would like to give back a little if i could...  if not,  oh well.

I definitely understand where you're coming from regarding meeting too many people with new SCI injuries.  I was a peer counselor for quite some time and could not figure out why I had recurring difficulties getting motivated properly.  After discovering that the peer counseling seem to be doing more damage than good to me, decided to wean myself from the program slowly.  I would still like to go in every now and then to counsel new injuries that are similar to mine, but it seems as if the program has dried up down here.  It is a valuable program, but it has to have more than a few volunteers to be successful.  Burnout is inevitable.

Interesting Concept, but not outrageous, by any means.  If I thought dancing naked in the streets of New York or Chicago would make anyone reconsider doing anything that risky, I too would consider doing it.  Granted, that would be outrageous, if you knew me.

I'm spending too much time in hospitals these days meeting people of all ages who have experienced an SCI trauma.  Its not a reassuring experience.... even once.  Having to relate to them, their friends and family is not a rewarding or comforting experience.

If we can say or express a commercial that will make one person think and possibly prevent... I say "Go Fer It!"
