I went to San Diego shortly after I finished rehab with a nurse and a PT that
had bought a converted bread truck and we either camped or stayed at motels.
The nursing home was going to make a big deal but I talked to the folks that
owned it and they couldn't bring themselves to scrooge me. It was an epiphany
for all of us. We all had our reasons and misconceptions about reality, each
other or ourselves, in my case, both.
1. Never let anyone drive too much on a road trip. It creates insanity.
2. Road trips are best if they fast longer so pull over!
3. If you love someone, don't let go. (Its BS about them coming back.)
It's the only thing near a vacation I have ever been on, ever.
I'm sure others here have gone on great trips, but a month with two grad
students driving back in the 70's is probably the reason I'm alive today.
So I guess my answer is, it wasn't the destination, it was the trip. Screw the
airlines.

Thank you so much. That at least gives me some idea. I bet
renting a wheelchair accessible is astronomical by the necessity for most
people
without a strong man like you have. I have never checked out the
cost.

In my dreams maybe someday I will get to go on a vacation. Where's
the best place you have ever been on vacation since your disability. That
would be a great question for the group. I have always thought I wanted to
go to a island resort. I don't know where ?.
