I got my Echo about 4 months ago and use it everyday. I use it to turn on lights via a hub called Wemo Switch, no special light bulb required. I have 2 Wemo Switches for 2 different lamps. The Wemo will turn on any devivpce you have it plugged into. It was a very easy set up through my iPad. I can turn on/off my lights verbally or on th app on my iPad.
I also ask my Echo for "Flash Briefing" everyday witch is a 2-3 minute news update. Recently, I've been playing jeopardy, it will ask 6 questions daily. I can get weather in my town or anywhere in the world. I ask Echo to Wikipedia anything I can on the internet. It will tell you jokes, help you with math, spelling or definitions of words.
