Hi Dan Knight

I have been experimenting with this area for a while, with some success.

Basically a Q840 is OK for importing video, but is constrained by 30 frames
per second (FPS) This is actually quite slow. Playback of imported video is
FASTER in Simpletext than in MoviePlayer !?! - might be something to do with
quicktime.

Supermac made a video import card in 1991 called the Spigot (I have 2). This
works fine on my IIsi, IIci, and up to a Q650. This option is limited
though. It is only possible to import through a small "window", although
quality is decent enough. Software drivers are needed, and can be found out
on the web ( I have a copy)

When I put this card in my 840, the image became distorted and was next to
useless.

Supermac also made another card called the SpigotAV and is designed purely
for the 840. It is the only card I know that uses the small PDS style slot
AND nubus slot. This is VERY rare. I don't have one. Background info claims
that this can import video at 50 FPS on a 840.

Finally I have a Q630. This apparently has better video facilities than a
840, although I don't have the parts to test it.

When I import video on my 840 I find the best option is to record to memory
(needs at least 60MB spare capacity ideally) and then to save to an external
hard drive. I then transfer this drive to my Pulsar 250DP and edit the
footage. Not ideal, but faster than using purely a 840. Am tempted to set up
an ethernet link to speed things up.

Email me if you need any further info
