pickle, mate, have you ever looked inside an 840av, I mean properly?
It's behind the top Nubus slot, about 1.5" long and black. I wondered
what it was but it would appear it is a PDS slot, the 840av is listed as
having PDS in some spec databases.

Too darn right :). The 840av, as I have explained so many damn times
everyones going potty (I'm starting a website on the Q800s later this
year BTW), has a dedicated AV sub-system powered by a 66.7MHz AT&T
Digital Signal Processor and various other proprietary Apple designed
chips. This sub-system takes virtually all the load off of the CPU and
allows it to process high frame rate video (for 1993) without slowing
down the computer asn relying on the weedy 68040 which is too busy
running the OS and the rest oft he video capture program as well as
handling the I/O to get the video to disk. Not only this but you can
plug a TV into the AV Out port and watch the video stream on it - cool
huh?
