This is definitely time to invite you to Canada for some Sleeman's Cream Ale pickle - time off, R&R. Good beer here :) I apologize about the confusion re ID. I am in Hamilton - an hour away from Toronto. Quite understandable that the origin looked the same. And I certainly can be a pain in the butt. With regards to your question re the sick Mac (well, crippled): I did it. I messed up my 575, which had been upgraded to OS 8.1, by trying to install a new version of Eudora. I threw away tcp/ip by mistake. I took the injured family member to our university puter shop for a clean install. It had to be entire, not just a section tcp/ip addition, because *that's the way 8.1 is* So I was like an apartment building owner with all suite keys but NO front door key (to the net)... :[ very serious learning curve here... Meanwhile I made do with textonly Classic II (now needs battery - how to pointers URL?? tia) The univ. tech dept had done all my work in the past and were really outstanding. But their Mac star had left... to be replaced by a lad who looks as if he came from Amish land and without supervision let a week in the shop nudge into 10 days, for a 2 hour proceedure. His supervisors know nothing of Macs so this incipient Luddism was not seen as the destructive and expensive PR disaster it turned out to be. When a franchise cannot perform a Clean Install and the supervisors do not know what it is... it's time to turn to Apple Canada I guess. Did I mention that I am in Hamilton, Ontario? :) Until they find a new tecchie they will not get any more of MY little family of Macs to work on. I will try to do a clean install myself with help from a community net friend - and your assistance no doubt. While I was away i got a 1 MB MacPlus and software so my little family may need a set of hub instructions soon. I survived, the machine can be tended to, and I learned a lot about tcp/ip. hehe A sleeman toast, k
