Good clue. I just started a PPC from both an internal CD-Rom, and the same external CD-Rom, using the same bootable disc that was yielding the sad, dead mac on the Q630. Hard Disk tools reveals that SCSI ID 0-6 show up as the CD-Rom (external ID switch is set to 7), so obviously there's a problem there, maybe the external terminator plugged into the CD-Rom is bad. I'll try terminating it internally somehow, guess that'll entail taking it apart, no biggie. Now I've just got to figure out what has gone wrong with that internal IDE drive! -Brian Yup, I have it apart now, just have to determine between parity, prevent/allow, and test mode, which is the termination jumper pair. Drive is an external Apple CD-300, Sony cdu561-25 inside, in case anyone is immediately familiar...
