So far, I've tidied up all the loose ends I can find, reloomed part of
the looms, and reconnected the random loose ends. I've chased the
random yellow wire that should feed the lamp though, and I can't find
any trace of it emerging from the loom which is a little worrying. But
grabbing the loom and giving it a damn good shake doesn't make the
fuse blow - previously a bump in the road would fuse it. So maybe I've
found it, maybe not. I've put it back together - well, the main dash;
not finished yet.

Also, discovered that the reason why the sidelights lamp on the
instrument panel didn't light up is that there *isn't* one - it relies
on stray light from the cluster backlights, and the one nearest was
out. Also, for some reason the red instruments were 'lit' (for some
value of lit) by lights behind dark green filters. I have no idea why
this should be, but they did make it gloomy, so I've removed them.

We shall see...
