Does it come on? (charge light) Cannot say I have noticed mine ever coming on with the ignition, but I know when I hit a pool of standing water, and the belt slips, it comes on then.
Just been working on pals 1939 BSA car - its been re-wired for -ve earth and an alternator fitted .. He asked me to help with a 'slight electrical fault' to be presented with an unmarked loom - of the all black type - a dead short to earth when the headlights were on .. and no fuses, anywhere.
