Wow! Great Response by all many thanks

Jim,
That sounds a possible, as perhaps I should have made it clearer in my
original post, the top of the pistons are not just damp with fuel they
are awash i.e. 1/8th to a 1/4 inch after a few cranks.

Hamish,
The escort is a 1600 Zetec with a EEC IV controller and I appreciate
the caution, I will carry out as many checks as possible before I end
up with two dead cars on the drive.

Gary,
Are the fault code flashes produced with the ignition on but not
started or with the ignition off? I am at work at the moment and I
expect that answer maybe clearer when I get home.

The car is currently on the drive so I can only investigate these as
and when but I will feedback the results as soon as I can.

Thanks

Trevor
