At some point the engine looms will plug into the car looms via a few
connectors.
Ford do this so that they can use the same car looms with the different
engine options.
This will be the easiest point to graft it into you car loom.
I've not studied the PDF's yet but i will do.
Using the entire mondeo loom will give you problems with the interior
switchs, instrument cluster, heater controls etc but could be done.
The road speed sensor isn't a problem, all the later IB5 gearboxs on
Fiestas, Ka's etc have a sensor that fits in series with the speedo
cable which will have the same output.

It looks like there's a lot more of the wiring going to be required
than I first thought.
Good job I'm working from a complete car and not just a scrappy
engine.
Next main job has to be to locate the Powertrain Control Module (PCM)
and see if it can be extracted without cutting any wires.
Everything seems to revolve around that one module.
One problem I can see so far is the vehicle speed sensor.
The MTX75 box has an electronic sensor on it; the ERST box won't have
one.
Might have to work out something from the speedo drive.
I'm half tempted to go back to my original idea and try to use as much
of the Mondeo loom as possible.

Thanks (once again) to both Jim and Hamish for excellent response.
Jim - It's an R reg 1997 car, pretty sure it's a Mk1 although lots of
things seem to have happened in that particular year and some Mk2s
seem to be wearing Mk1. clothing and vice versa.
It's also an estate, and with no aircon but with power steering if
that makes a difference.
Hamish - I haven't found an OBD2 socket yet, but there could well be
one.
There are certainly a few wires going to the back of the injector pump
which I haven't accounted for yet.
I was hoping to keep things as standard, i.e. keep the EGR system, but
as I said the diaphragm is leaking oil.
No doubt a new Ford item (probably the entire manifold) will be
horrifically expensive.
Guess I'll have to get back into the habit of visiting scrapyards -
those that are left, anyway.
