I have now managed to remove the entire engine bay loom, and the ECU.
It turns out the engine controller is an EEC-V.

Haven't spent much time on the driver's side yet so not really looked
for an OBD socket, although I think the EEC-V supports one.

I had to cut a small bundle of about 7 wires in order to get the loom
out.
I think/hope that these are the ones which need to be spliced into the
Quantum loom because they are the only ones which seem to head towards
the driver area instrument panel/switches.
The bunch includes one which matches the black/orange colour code for
the vehicle speed sensor which would be required by the electronic
speedo.
Another matches the colour for the temp. sender. The rest seems to be
mainly purple, orange and black, but not had time to examine them
properly yet.
They'd be easy to re-join if necessary.

There are still 4 or 5 blue, green and grey multiplug connectors
unaccounted for around the main fusebox/timer module. I think that
these will turn out to be for auxiliary circuits which can be
discarded. There are plenty of extra circuits around the engine bay -
wipers, horns, heated screen, brake fluid level sensor, lights,
indicators, repeaters, radiator fan, etc.

I do like the fusebox. Much better than the Fiesta one.
Might see if it's feasible to keep it, along with its drop-down
mechanism.
