First off, let me award some thanks to Andy Heaton for letting me have
a quick nose around his diesel Quantum at Stoneleigh.
Very informative - especially the tip about using 2 batteries.

Now, a request.
Has anybody got any old driveshaft splined XR2 ends (or CV joints)
kicking around unused?
I'm after a pair just to hold the front wheel bearings together, while
it's laid up.
They won't be used on the road, they're just so that I can push the
car around the garage on its wheels.
Old/worn items would be fine, just so long as the splines and threads
are sound.
Not essential, but it would make life a bit easier. Happy to pay
postage etc.

As far as the conversion goes, I've been making some progress.

The ERST engine is out of the Quantum. Unfortunately it had to come
out upwards. I was quite pleased with the way it came out intact.
Downwards would have been preferable, but to get it out that way I
would have had to take the manifolds and possibly turbo off.
Presumably these must have been fitted once the engine was in place.
I intend carry out some mods to the bottom bar to make it easier to
get the Endura engine in from underneath - it seems to have been cut
off a bit longer than necessary.

Having now removed the gearbox, it turns out that the Endura flywheel
will definitely not fit the Escort clutch.
And the flywheel has 8 mounting bolts, instead of the Escort's 6
bolts.

So, I guess it's off to the scrappy for a flywheel, and a motor
factors for a new clutch to fit to it.

Which raises a few questions:
Anybody know of a good one to go for?
I'm guessing Escort, Courier, or Fiesta diesel 1800. Would a 1600 one
do? What about the 1.4?

Is the ring gear for a diesel Escort going to be the same diameter as
for the Mondeo?
If not, which starter would I need? Do petrol and diesel starters
differ in the windings etc. according to application?
The Mondeo starter is long and thin, whereas the Escort one is shorter
and fatter.

My Endura flywheel has a crank position mark drilled into the back of
it, sensed by a typical crank sensor in the engine flange.
Is this going to be present on the Escort/etc. or would I have to
drill it myself, and risk upsetting the balance of the flywheel?

Many thanks for any advice.

TonyV.
