Yes, they are different.
If you don't have the correct one, unplug the AFM, reset the ecu and let it
relearn without the AFM.
My Mondeo runs quite happily without the AFM, it just uses the throttle
position and engine speed to work out fuelling.

I haven't changed the AFM, the correct one I had has disappeared, I assume
from your question that there is a difference between the two. Apart from the
idle the car goes like a rocket..... scary quick.

Did you let the ecu calibrate itself when you first started it ?

You need to start it from cold, don't touch the throttle and let the engine
warm up on idle until the fan cuts it.
If you need to reset it then pull the ECU continuous feed fuse for 30 seconds
and then refit, this will clear the ecu memory.

Did you find the correct 1.8L 115ps AFM, i think the last one you had was
from the 1.6

I finally have her back and running, sort of. It runs really well and is
bloody quick but will not idle when warm. The engine hunts between 500 and
2000rpm before stalling. any ideas please guys?

I have a fuel filter swirl pot on my 1.8 zetec engined rickman, it has at
least one extended banjo bolt to give it the provision of an extra port used as
a return to the fuel tank.
