Mark, I stuffed 220bhp of Fiat Turbo engine in there; upgraded the discs to the Mondeo 2.5 V6 discs and calipers which bolted on to the xr2 hubs - needed only the holes taking out to M12 (from memory) and a little angle-grinding on the mounting face to centre things. Recent posts elsewhere suggest that non-xr2 hubs may have a different hole offset.
On my car, the total weight is a ton even, with about 380kg on the back wheels and 620kg on the fronts. I haven't found it necessary to change the back end.
