Neil, my brother was quite interested in your transplant. He works for Fiat and
thought that the engine would be too heavy for the car. I would be interested
in
hearing how your car handles now. I have also been quite interested in some of
the weights that I have seen posted on this group. My 2+2 came up on the
scrapyard weighbridge at 930kg with a quarter tank of fuel and 75Kg of me in
it.
This was with the 1.4cvh engine and nothing in the boot. If this figure is
wildly below what would be expected then I think I may take my van elsewhere to
weigh it in!!

My brother is doing the transplant for me, running a pub seems to swallow all
my
time so it would take me forever to finish. He reckons about a week of evenings
and two full days for the engine and wiring (helped by the well labelled
conversion loom). I looked at Jims site, the pictures on there of the subframe
mods will be invaluable. I have the drawings that I think were made by Chris
Fairlie and together with the photos it should be easy to make the frame
modifications.

Thank you for the advice on brakes, I shall put those suggestions to Peter and
will keep you all posted on progress and the braking solution he uses.

Mark,

I stuffed 220bhp of Fiat Turbo engine in there; upgraded the discs to
the Mondeo 2.5 V6 discs and calipers which bolted on to the xr2 hubs -
needed only the holes taking out to M12 (from memory) and a little
angle-grinding on the mounting face to centre things. Recent posts
elsewhere suggest that non-xr2 hubs may have a different hole offset.

On my car, the total weight is a ton even, with about 380kg on the
back wheels and 620kg on the fronts. I haven't found it necessary to
change the back end.
