I was worried about that as well initially. But, the alternator must be outputting the battery voltage on that pin when it's running to put the alternator warning light out. There can't be any volts dropped across the bulb or the bulb would glow.

The seed current for the alternator starts as 12v BUT the bulb acts as a resistor which drops the voltage to a much lower value. My concern would be damaging the exciter coils in the alternator.
