Gents Many thanks for your inputs and advice, hadn't considered the bell housing/clutch issue. I am in a similar situation to Andrew, with a 1.6 Pinto install, but am having height issues with the carb, oil filler and cam belt cover, hence my view that I needed to lower it. Will have a go at a couple of small mods (hadn't thought about tilting the engine, so will give that a go) and see if I end up with only the carb issue and will probably end up going for the cut out and accept that the engine change will need to include money for a new bonnet!
