Hi Jim Probably isn't what I need, but it's a good starting point to ask (you) for guidance. My son's 2+2 has been upgraded to a MK3 1.8i Zetec engine and box. The gearbox is giving some problems, it's always had a tendency to slip out of 3rd, but recently developed a much more serious and strange problem. When reversing, it any degree of lock above c.50% is applied the car doesn't move and the front judders dramatically. This leads me to believe the best way forward is to replace the Box (and diff) as a unit. So the question - what kind of gearbox do I need, and what cars would ford have fitted it to? - Plus any advice that might help an old git who only really understands cars with rear wheel drive and carburettors. Cheers StevieCee
