It's very common, happens on the other side on the pressed steel bracket.
I think it's a combination of worn bushes and just rust building up and flaking off.

had exactly the same on mine when i bought one off ebay due to mine
not having one originally as it was fitted with an OHV
Presumably the previous owner of the bracket ran the car with badly
worn bushes for some considerable time,
I built the hole up with weld then filed it back to shape using a
round socket as a guide to keep the hole round and true. then just use
a dremmel to flat off the front or rear faces, or as Jim says, machine
it back, would be even better

I’m pretty sure it’s cast steel not cast iron.
Cast iron would be too brittle for car suspension.

You should be able to build it up with weld and machine flat again.

Subject: [Quantum Owners] XR2 Tie-bar mounting bracket worn out?

The XR2 Tie Bar mounting bracket -cast iron, front right hand side- has a much lager -more oval- hole than orignal where the bush/bush sleve/tie-bar goes through.

Ford does no longer have them.

Any idea how to fix this?

Hans
