Hi Dolomite Sprints have a similar problem and had a piece of aluminiumised fire proof shield that utilised a spring clip which went round the starter solenoid. My turbo does not affect the starter as yet but I would make an aluminium shield and use that special styff that modern cars use. So a vist to a scrap yard will be my next move.

It's supposed to be a common issue with the CVH engine, which has the
starter motor behind the exhaust.  I've never had the problem on either of
my CVH engined cars, including the turbo, which could make the issue worse.
Ford did make a heat shield for the starter motor, but I think these are
difficult to find.

        what model engine is it, type of ignition system
        at what sort of mileage did it start doing this.
        how long does it take to cool enough to start again.

          Just thought I'd add to this thread. I thought of adding an
exhaust heat wrap to a) hopefully reduce/remove this problem, b) keep
engine bay temperatures lower and c) get more power from faster removal
of exhaust gases!


          Not done it yet but something I've got in mind for when the Q
is back on the road.
