Wasn't the intention to make opening rear quarters for the mk2?

The Mk2 had the windows bonded in to add to the structural rigidity.
The Mk1 however had all of its glass installed in rubber as the donor car
had.
The Mk1 does not have the road holding of the Mk2 but that is not just down
to the windows, it is also due to the hatch that in effect opens a large
hole at the rear of the car.
