If I remember rightly (and there's no guarantee with my memory), the strips *were* slightly hollowed out on the back as they had to clear the moulding line where the two body halves joined. There were indeed two self adhesive strips top and bottom on the strip, just as Jim says. I know that on the H4 my son (Chris) owned for a while, the join was not a neat line, I'm sure it was proud of the bodywork - oh, and it sprang apart when he put the car sideways into a railing revealing a rusty chassis tube underneath!
