To further confuse matters I don't know about yours but mine dates from the very short period when it was a requirement for cars to run the dipped beams at a lower wattage whenever the sidelights were on. As such the flaps come down on mine (F reg, it was required on new cars for only a year or two around that time) as soon as the sidelights are turned on.
