Thanks guys, yes mine is F reg, but no life from flaps on dipped or 
sidelights. But I think Jim's suggestion seems to work. I have managed to 
stop the flaps moving on full beam, so it is just a matter of working 
through the connections on what seems to be a fairly corroded component. 
Unfortunately the builder seems to have chosen red cable for every 
connection, so cable tracing is now a matter of hit and miss, but at least 
I'm going in the right direction.
I have a blog, but I am very tardy in updating it. I will post an update

Batteries and charger now in and car drives. Brakes need to be bled, but 
hoping for a test run in May.
