Update: Being ever so slightly impatient I decided to have a good olde wiggle. That didn't work so I got out my build manual to try and figure out how to go about it. I then had a good olde drill. Drilled the lock out. Bit fiddly but by working my way up to an 8mm drill bit and forcing a screwdriver in occasionally and the lock got pushed in. Was then able to get at the release mechanism which was just out of sight to the right and open the boot. Brand new lock and keys on ebay now bought for less than £25 delivered. Having now seen how the lock is housed, I can see that drilling an access hole behind the number plate almost certainly wouldn't have worked on a 2+2 So if this happens to anyone else, maybe 2 hours work with a drill and £25 isn't the end of the world.
