I was always told that the 2+2's sills have a whacking great piece of RSJ inside them so you can jack up the car from anywhere between the wheels. I agree about having something with you to protect the gelcoat though - some jacks have some pretty rough edges. I have a bit of wood with some old towel stapled onto it for that purpose.
