Cheers Jim Yes they've always been a pig since I bought the car.
When I replaced the mechanism/motor on the passenger side I took the old one out & held the window in place to stop it dropping like a stone into the car. After it was out I let go of the window & it slowly dropped to about half way & just sat there with nothing supporting/holding it up. That was when I began to wonder about the rubber gripping the glass. The replacement mechanism moved up & down ok before I fitted it, 'cause I connected it to a power supply & tried it before I put it in. I'll go out & undo the 2 bolts tomorrow when it's stopped raining & see how it moves in situ.
