Just as a follow up in case anyone is interested. I have tried using a QCView
instead of a QCCompositionLayer and deferring and not deferring the creation of
the view or layer. I also tried constructing a QCView from a NIB. All crash
when Enable Guard Malloc is turned on. This seems like a really bad bug and I
cannot see how this would not affect all QC projects out there.

In fact, just using the default QC project template in XCode and turning on
Enable Guard Malloc will cause the very same crash.
