Classic. But whether or not she can give ST REIMS a start and a
beating under WFA conditions is debatable. The one barrier draw must
be used to advantage if she's to run him down.

[Trevor] As you know I'm a St Reims fan - he opened at $2.25 - Its my
opinion he's the best 2000 metre horse in NZ at the moment - Lashed
was unbeatable in 2004, but she's shown no form this season.  She'll
need to be fully fit to sustain one of his grinding runs.

[Neil] I can't think of a higher rating 2000m horse off the top of my head. And that's probably reflected in the average field lining up tomorrow. BALMUSE is probably the only challenger and he's not racing currently.

The only reason I'm backing LASHED is she's pregnant . . . I generally [dependent on track conditions] back all mares in this condition regardless of form, distance, etc.

Unfortunately, I didn't find out THE MIGHTY LIONS was pregnant until after she won the Avondale Cup, and I'm still feeling sick on missing out there. SINGING STAR was served but failed to get into foal [I back them once when this occurs]before she won the Waikato Cup. Again I didn't find out until after the event and that only rubbed salt into already festering wounds. I'm hoping LASHED can restore my sanity tomorrow.

That's one problem with having a pregnant mare betting stable . . . the connections/media often don't release this info' until they've run in that condition. If this happens and they win first up, I curse and swear for a very long time.

CALVEEN now into $2.50. Bugger, some punters were obviously happy with the $2.75. I'm afraid I'm not buying her at that price.
