Thanks for your reply.  I am beginning to suspect a few things after
further testing.   I do not think the unit is bad, but may still give
another a try -- cause I want this to work:

1) The wireless hardware is completely different internally to that of
the SB3.  I tried changing the Ethernet Encapsulation Transform the AP
uses from the standard RFC1042 to 802.1H.... The SB3, rock solid as
they are cannot connect with 802.1H.  But the SBR connects.   Not
acceptable to use this, as I need all my devices to connect.  Doubt if
it really matters..signal strength was the same.

2) I do have congestion, and there are may APs with small signals
visible... this may be something the SBR has great difficultly with,
while the SB3 is not bothered...as you so stated.  I can stream FLAC at
24/48 to both SB3s simultaneously with no issue...so clearly there are
wifi performance issues with the SBR

3) related to (1)...I do think there is simply less signal getting to
the SBR wireless system... if internal antenna...or just sensitivity of
the different hardware -- or a combination of both.
