I went through this as well. I found that disconnecting the power cord (not just shutting the radio off) was the key for me. Then, hold the <<Rewind button while reconnecting the power cord. You'll be holding the rewind button for a couple of minutes during the start up but then you will see the old Squeezebox screen. You can then follow the other instructions in this thread to make the rollback stick. (I don't have a battery in my Squeezebox.
