Now my question is this: how can I, with lackadaisical (sp?) Sr. & other commanders and unmotivated & disinterested boys create an environment to inspire a transformation within our Pioneers/Discovery Rangers group? How do I change this from a babysitting service to a true Royal Ranger Outpost to live up to our charter? How do I motivate the boys to want to wear uniforms or T-shirts? How can I impact the other commanders of the magnitude of responsibility God has placed on our shoulders? How do I weasel funds from our Sr. Commander for materials, uniforms and other necessities for the boys? [Gnter Pflaum] I just
came home from our very inspiring RR-district leaders meeting in Bonn,
Germany.
There
I talked to the leader of one OP who has pretty unruly Trail
rangers.
As a
woman and a wife of a disabled husband she has her load to
bear.
Her
church leadership is also telling her to go easy on the boys (Trail rangers !)
because they all have to go through their phase in life and find their way
!!!
At the
meeting - among other items we developed the concept of
our sectional camp coming up at Pentecost.
The
theme is:
On the
way with Jesus, following on the trail of BiPi."
It will be bac k to the roots of
scouting with discipline and challenges especially for the trail
rangers.
Their
desire was to be a part in the organisation of the camp, among other things
to develop camp rules as seen from their position .
Now we
have decided that you are not a trail ranger simply because you reached
that age and did your merits.
A
certain degree of maturity has to be present with the boy or
girl.
Now
when she heard that the trail rangers from other OP's will be responsible for a
fairly important part of the camp and also for seeing to it that the discipline
will be monitored by the TR's she received hope for her
"brats".
First
they will then have to show to the other TR's what is
really in them , and also
secondly a challenging scouting part will be
required of them.
Also
they will be challenged by their own kind.
All
leaders in our section are very exited about the camp and even the lesser
motivated leaders got cought up by the "wind of
change".
All it takes is simply a leader that himself
is exited about the Ranger/Scouting idea.
Take
first just the boys under your own charge to a higher
level .
This
will ignite a new fire in the ones that probably never knew what scouting is all
about.
It may
sound like cheap advice coming from a bloke that has no idea about how
the American Rangers are operating.
But it
worked in my patrol and by now in less than a year the other leaders and
Rangers do like what they see and have shifted into a
higher gear.
On
their own initiative the Trail rangers hold a regular prayer meeting right after
the morning service where they pra for workers according to Lu ke 15,
10.
They
have seen with teir own eyes that just recently two new workers signed up
for NTC and last OP-mtg. a lady came to "see how the Rangers
work".
(
Probably swallowed the hook)
This are my two Euro's in
that matter. € € €
