I've been thinking about a couple of things and would like your imput:
How do you evaluate an outpost?>Short answer: Are the boys coming back:) Real answer: I do take into a lot of consideration in what other Commanders from different Outpost say about my boys when they are at a rally, District Camp, Derby race, etc. I guess I see it in not how many awards they are earning but what type of character they are impressing on others, how they work together, how they treat each other and so on. I also talk to my boys and get their input. Are they enjoying Rangers? Do they invite their friends?
What is a sucessful outpost?>It alway goes back to Program Vs. Ministry. I will be honest, we don't run the best program. My boys earn awards, but not a lot. We do a lot of activities/outings. Coming from a big city, we try to get our boys out in God's country as much as possible. Many of our boys have never left the city limits before they came to Rangers. I have gotten a lot of positive feedback from other Commanders about my boys(see above). We try to minister as much as possible. Many of our boys come from broken homes. I guess for me personally a successful outpost is one who is leading boys on the right path to live for Christ. Where are the boys after they leave Rangers. Are they serving Christ? If not, why? I know that is a personal decision but did we help or hinder. I like what my Expedition Commander tells the boys. "If I see you ten years from now and you don't remember how to tie a square not or know the Four Gold points but you are still serving the Lord, then I know I've done my job."
If someone visited your meetings, what would they think about Rangers if
they did
not know anything about the program?>Hopefully they will see that we are training Mighty Men of God.
