Duane,

Sounds like the troop is working the way it should. Don't you wish every troop did.
I have a nephew who's Dad and Mom (my sister) take him camping with the troop. I think it's great that they do this together. What I don't find so great is the stories I get from my sister about the drinking around the campfire after the boys are in bed. Not a good example. It could be just this troop but I doubt it.

My point. Bad examples do not overcome good policy. By the way, my sister and my nephew's Dad are not married. Another great example. Could this translate to a Ranger Outpost? I suppose it could, but it is less likely.

Personal I do not need the ladies around on a Ranger Campout. Sounds harsh but I have to deal with lust on a daily basis and these campouts are an island of refuge. Now it could be said that I do not belong in Rangers because of this. I leave that up to Jesus to decide.

Each of us carries the cross in a different manner, but we all carry it for Jesus.

Just my humble two cents worth.

God Bless you all,

Bob Triphahn

First, Last night at the troop meeting...

Scoutmaster called Josh Wheeler up in front of 85 boys
and announced the "paperwork" arrived and Josh Wheeler
is approved and awarded his Eagle Scout badge.

Good Job Josh!

The troop applauded, Josh shook Mr.Huttons hand, waved
the badge at the troop and pointed his hand to them..
signaling "It's up to you now"..
then  continued with his duties as Senior patrol leader.

The mail is full of offers from the Marines and others who
respect the rank of Eagle Scout. Josh has accepted a summer
job, as Lifeguard at a Oregon scout camp on the beach, with
pay and accomidations provided. Surf board will rest against
his cabin in a sand dune<G>

SPL has a staff of 6 boys who are Life or Eagle themselves and
16-18 years old.  They head now 8 patrols of up to 10 boys in
each patrol.  These Patrols act independent of the troop with
their individual leadership reporting and meeting to plan outings
and the content of their boy led meetings. The shop, menue and
cook their own food and fund themselves by agreement.

The Troop owns zero facilities and has zero outside support.

The Adult staff numbers 2 per Patrol, with reserve
enough to field a troop Commitee of parents numbering 50 to 100
every monday, who are participateing in seminars supporting the
troop on a variety of subjects. They is a fleet of Chevy Suburbans
and trailers to transport the troop to any location as needed.

Scoutmaster Hutton..  Maintains the records with a computer, and
books the Troop into camps and purchases the awards. He "Leads" by
doing what he does to the best of his ability and trusts his Ass't
Scoumasters to do the hands-on leg work, with advancement and event
oversight.

At troop328, there is zero 'stigma about gender, and zero talk
amongst the staff about it. Women may camp, hike, set tents anywhere
they desire, ..prudent, and the spirit is such that it just
is not a "problem". It's likely the very same "spirit" exists at
Cdr.Gunters Outpost of "padfinderz" and with Cdr.Victor in Oz. It may
even quietly exist in your Outpost.

So.. Just what is it with US Rangers?
