Howdy- Clear the deck, I'm talking Scout's again..
I'm camping with a 13 year old BSA Troop with zero facility or budgeted support from the Chartering org. I stumbled on to this orginization by chance 5 years ago- This Troop now numbers 80 boys 11 to 18 years old. *HOW COME? ---------- Last night, the troop lined up and it streached the full length of a Elementry school cafeteria's basketball court! *Imagine boy's with beards wanting to hang around in shorts with knee socks<G> Interesting trivia- ------------------ The Scoutmaster of T328 has never given a boy a gift, toy,snack or memento.. SM does not stand at the front but allways stands silently in the back. Each week, he may or may not "have a word"... But when he does.. the room falls stone quiet. There is no marching, paramilitary drill's or loud voices saying "Listen up!" ...but 95% of the boys are in full correct uniform down to BSA issue socks<G> They stand in a "square" by patrol.. This troop meets every monday night 7pm- and often it's a zoo! Sometimes it seems nothing much is going on.. just social banter, play and Scout bussiness<G> *The real troop meets once each month for a Campout. All Year- any weather- and temp. take it as it comes<G> *The boys by Patrol bring their own food and gear to cook and campout. Amazeingly, most come.. pay the fee pay for Gas and chip in for food! *This Troop is not "cheap" to keep up with<G> As a Scouter- *I've bought hundreds of dollars of high end zero degree sleeping bags, pack frames, water filters,backpack stoves,boots, Gortex parkas, fleesewear and hats!
