I'm thinking we are talking apples and oranges here.

The original intent of Rangers is to 'Reach, Teach and Keep boys for Christ'.

I do NOT see where it says 'Raise Self-esteem' as a purpose for our Ministry.

In one sense, I heartily agree with Bob: We must evangelize boys, that's our purpose.
But we do not do this 100% of the time. This is where Duane comes in. When you look at the basic meeting plan, we get a one minute prayer to begin, 5-10 minutes for Bible Study and 5 minutes for a devotion. In a 90 minute meeting, that makes up just a little over 10% of our time. The rest of the time is the 'bait' time that brings the boy to the meeting. During that time, if we can help a boy feel better about himself, all is well and good.

But Duane, we are not professional ministers. It was never intended to be that way. As men in the church, we are supposed to be living examples of what boys should try to be. And while we teach to them to hike and start fires and build pinewood derby cars, we share the joy of Jesus we have in our lives. In the 10 or 15 minutes that we get to do actual 'churchy' stuff, we're not preaching (at least we shouldn't be), we are sharing biblical principles thru the bible study and for our devotions, we are telling stories with a spiritual or life application. If you can give an altar call, all the better.

You two are NOT disagreeing, you are talking about two different things. Bob is talking about our reason for being. Duane is talking about how we get the boy there to do that. The problem lies in trying to make Rangers 100% of one part or the other. As leaders, we are seriously in error when we try to run a Royal Ranger program that does not do BOTH things...
