Mark: I'm not judging your pastor or anyone else, but again it's the leadership and what direction they want to take the group.  Ours is all about personal & relational growth with each other, in time the church will grow because of them, but that is not the emphasis of ours.  We often do outreaches in other ways to the community.   As I mentioned, our pastor picks the leaders but they have leadership skills and are well respected in the church.  They have often previously served in leadership elsewhere in the church.   The church I attended in LA area had a slightly different twist to the cell group in that they made it a point to invite friends and neighbors in, but that was a long time ago.  As well each church has the right to run them the way they see fit.   Jim Hufferd
