In those rare cases when I make boys do pushups, I do them with them.
I have had some extreme behaviour problems in the past where I will have a
boy(pioneer or older) do pushups with me till one of us can't do any more.
At that time, I tell the boy that whoever lasts the longest is in charge of
the class.
To this day, I have never lost. I have done so many pushups that I could
hardly lift my arms or hold a pencil!
I don't recomend this method for everyone. I do it in the spirit of fun.
The other boys enjoy watching the competition and it never fails to calm
down the class afterwards. Several of my regular boys are quick to tell the
contest loser that he was beat by a 42 year old man that is out of shape!
