It is really funny that you mention this today. I was
just thinking of my experience with Mr. Deaver this evening in church then I
came home and read this. I have come to the conclusion that Mr.
Deaver is very old school. He does not seem to embrace technology the
way we have. My unfavorable experience with Mr. Deaver
came during the 1992 (I believe that was the year) Northeast regions
commander and wife retreat. I had come late to the opening service
and when I came in the group was singing "Awesome God" by Rich Mullins, and
Mr. Deaver then proceeded to spend his entire sermon preaching
against the evils of chrisitian rock. I was at Bible College at
time and several of my class mates had become saved at these
concerts. I had thought this was very hippocritical of him especially
since he was hawking his wares at a cost of $1000 and more. He was saying
how it was wrong to charge for t shirts and tapes and tickets, yet he didn't
seem to realize how his art was very similar to these musicians "art".
There are costs involved to running a concert and putting out a tape or cd,
which include materials and time, exactly like his sculptures and painitings
(which were all beautiful and he is a very talented artist, just like many of
these musicians are).
I'm not here to preach for or against this type of music
(which BTW I enjoy) but I thought that conference was not the forum for that
type of sermon. It took me a long time to forgive him for that, but my
point is that if we petition Mr. Deaver for this comment he made lets do it in
love and caring or we are no better than he. We also have to remember that
he is the man we elected to the post. I lost a lot of respect for Mr.
Deaver that evening, however he is the president of FCF and we do need to
respect that of him and treat him with that respect if we call him on this error
in judgement on his part.
My humble opinion
