Frapper is a spec ed teacher and has been for 16 years. He comes home and
weeps over his kids, their frustrations, the obvious abuse, etc. He has
wonderful methods to help kids get past their problems and he modifies their
lessons to their individual needs. He has 95 students throughout the day who
each have their own special set of learning disabilities. He tests,
diagnoses, writes up and INDIVIDUAL learning plan on each child, meets with
their parents and other teachers, has a plan laid out that will suit all. He
goes to court as advocate, he works with the police and he prays and prays.
Try doing all of the things I've listed and much much more, PLUS teaching
eight classes of more children than he has chairs for, some who are gang
members, he has to remove knives and guns, and other things we won't discuss
here. He doesn't get birthday gifts or Christmas gifts, because he is not
the regular classroom teacher. He gets the angry, frustrated kids with
attitude and wins them, stays with them, helps them, encourages them, he is
their confidante', father figure, teacher, role model and he comes home
tired, spent emotionally and spends hours each evening grading, making state
reports, setting meetings, getting help for his visually impaired, works with
autism and makes only $3,000 more after almost 20 years than new 22 yr old
teachers with NO experience!!! Am I avid about what he does for a living?
Have I watched him nearly tear his hair out because parents won't come to
meetings and show some care? How about the times parents almost took him to
blows because their child is NOT imperfect? People like Frapper don't come
along everyday. There are jerks in EVERY field of endeavor. Men we know who
have the less education than my husband are making 3x his salary without the
heartache and frustration. Special ed departments are looked over for
stipends, bonuses and books and materials. He spend five years copying
workbooks so there would be enough. There you have it, peacemaker Janet blew
up...sorry, the Rapture must be about to happen. lol I'm sorry if I
offended, I meant every word. I am not mad, I just think people need the
WHOLE story. You are right, Kelly, that felt good. I love you all Janet
